While scuba diving Hawaii you'll see an abundance of beautiful and complex fish, like our famous reef triggerfish called humuhumunukunukuapua'a - Hawaii's state fish. They play a vital role in our ecosystems and the vibrancy of our marine life. Diving is much more rewarding when you're knowledgeable about your environment - you might even find an unknown species if you know what you're looking at!
In this course, you'll learn to identify the primary families of Hawaiian fish and their characteristics, as well as fish survey techniques, and identification strategies that you'll build into your dive planning. If you're interested in participating in conservation or mapping projects, think about pairing this specialty with other conservation focused specialties such as the PADI Coral Reef Conservation Diver or National Geographic Diver specialties.
