Not to be confused with technical cave diving, these caves, caverns and lava tubes offer every diver the chance to explore something unique and unseen by most people. Lava tubes are an underwater cave formed by lava traveling beneath the surface of an active lava flow caused during a volcanic eruption.
To get an idea of the size of some of these tubes can reach, check out the Thurston Lava Tube in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, located on the big island of Hawaii. But the lava tubes we’re talking about are strictly underwater and host an amazing array of Hawaiian marine life.
The thrill of diving in Hawaii’s caverns and lava tubes is something you’ll never forget!
