Mike Matzinger is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor and PADI Specialty Instructor extraordinaire. He's also a graduate student in Marine Geology and Geochemistry at the University of Hawaii. He got certified his freshman year of college, and has had the “dive bug” ever since. After being certified in the cold waters of Maine, Mike went on to complete his scientific diving certification while at the Darling Marine Center. Mike has been diving in over 15 countries, including completing his Divemaster certification while studying abroad in Australia. Before completing his B.S. in Marine Science, Mike became an instructor in order to share his love of the underwater realm with others.
There is nothing quite as exciting for him as to watch someone’s first few breaths underwater. Mike teaches a myriad of specialty courses from the technical and thrilling courses, like wreck and diver propulsion vehicle, to course for the conservation minded, like Coral Reef Conservation and Peak Performance Buoyancy. His favorite course to teach however is Digital Underwater Photography - see Mike to learn how to make those photos spectacular, or with any of your camera questions! He continues to push forward with his diver education. Finishing his closed circuit rebreather (CCR) class earlier this year, Mike looks forward to continuing his rebreather education and becoming a CCR instructor.
